Pillowcases with Personality
My kids absolutely love to have their own super fun and personalized pillowcases. One of my daughters likes zebra print and hot pink and the other likes purple and butterflies. So it was fun to give them their own pillowcase. Making one is a great idea for anyone. There are so many ways to embellish them, and they really pop as an extra touch in a room.
Supplies you need: Scissors, straight pins, fabric(s) of your choice, pillowcase (to use for measurements)
For this project, I chose to 2 different material patterns. I began by laying a pillow case on the material and marking lines around it, making sure to add a 1/2 inch all around for seam allowence. Next I cut where I marked and folded down the top edge and pin on each end of the fold. I made sure the material was folded under ½ inch at the top to finish the edge.
Place the fabric right sides together; pin along the sides and bottom so they do not shift when sewn. Start by sewing along one edge then the bottom and continue up the other side.
After all 3 sides are sewn together; sew the fold for the top of the pillow case.
Now I turned the pillow case right side out and ironed it flat.
Now you have a pillow case! I love to add ribbon to the top edge of a similar or contrasting color. I have also used a fun stitch to sew down the top edge. A possibility could be to do the top hem a different material color or pattern also. I try to use material that are fairly soft so that it is "cuddle friendly" still. The possibilities are endless. Have fun and happy creating!
