Aurifil's 2-ply, 40-weight Mako Cotton Thread is slightly thicker than their 50-weight. The 40-weight is great for when you need a more defined pattern or design. You can use this luxury thread in sewing bags, toys, and garments. Mako Cotton 40wt Thread produces essentially no lint, making it ideal for single/double/triple strand cross-stitching, hand piecing, bobbin and machine lace, applique, embroidery, edge-to-edge, pantographs, and custom longarm quilting.

All of Aurifil's thread is 100% Egyptian cotton that is grown in the Mako region of Egypt and manufactured in Milan, Italy. To make their 2-ply Mako Cotton Thread even more lavish, Aurifil has all of their thread mercerized to give the strands strength and a vibrant sheen. Each cone in the Mako Cotton Thread collection holds 5410-yards (4700 meters). To get the best results, Aurifil recommends that you use a size 80/12 microtex/sharp, universal, or denim needle for everyday sewing, a 90/14 or 75/11 when quilting, and a 3.4 or 4.0 needle when quilting with a longarm.
