Welcome back to our Beginner's Guide to Serging. In this episode, we'll teach you how to create a three thread flatlock and a two thread flatlock (using a spreader/converter). You will also learn how to create a blind hem.
Flatlocks are commonly seen in athletic wear and dance wear. The flatlock stitch is great for knit fabric and spandex mixed fabric as it stretches without breaking. It also reduces the bulkiness of your seams. It is functional, but can also be used as a decorative feature.
Using a Blind Hem Foot on your overlock machine makes creating a flatlock stitch easier and more accurate. Although not required, I do recommend investing in one, as it has multiple uses.
