In this video, we learn the basics of reading patterns, as well as a little bit about fabric and notions. Patterns are intimidating and like learning a new language. It's basically like putting together a puzzle; some are simple and easy, while others are incredibly difficult. The trick is to know what the lines and symbols mean. The more you expose yourself to patterns, the less scary they become.
Now, we all want to jump in and go crazy with fabric. However, it's important to understand a few basics so you know what to look for. In this video, you'll learn how to identify grain, nap, and bias, as well as how to get warped fabric "on grain" and how to "square up" for quilting.
Notions are project specific and all the required ones are listed on the back of the pattern. The more you sew, the larger your notions stock pile will become. Towards the end of this video, we'll introduce you to the commonly used notions and why they are used.
