Are you ready to show your serger some TLC? In this video, we teach you how to change the upper knife and lower knife of your Serger.
Sergers, also known as Overlockers, are loved for their ability to quickly trim raw ends. Unlike sewing machines, sergers have two built-in "knives". These razor-sharp blades are strong enough to cut through thick denim, yet gentle enough to shave fine chiffon. However, they'll eventually become dull. If you see the fabric edges fraying slightly, despite being freshly serged, it's time to change the knives.
Generally, if you serge everyday, expect to replace your knives every 2 to 3 months. Again, this is a judgement call. Keep in mind, stock blades are likely made of steel and thus not the highest quality. Our technicians prefer serger knives made of Carbide, as they last longer and preform better.
Serger knives are machine specific, so make sure to search our website by model number or give our customer service a call. We're happy to help!
