Sew Anywhere! Omnigrid Travel Mat & Dritz Travel Iron Demo 🧵
This blog post highlights a portable sewing solution for working in small spaces, featuring the OmniGrid foldable cutting and pressing mat and the Dritz Mighty Travel Steam Iron. The folding mat opens to a convenient 9 by 12 inches, offering both a cutting surface and a pressing side, making it ideal for trimming and pressing small quilt pieces on the go. Paired with the compact travel iron, which heats quickly and includes a steam function, these tools make it easy to sew, quilt, and craft anywhere without needing a full sewing room.
I’m in the middle of my next project, but I had to stop and share something I think is incredibly cool. If you’ve ever had to craft, quilt, or sew in a small space, this is one of those products that immediately makes life easier. OmniGrid has come out with a portable cutting mat and pressing mat combination, and it’s honestly a game changer. The entire mat folds up like a book, which makes it easy to store or take with you wherever you’re working.
The mat measures 9 inches by 12 inches when open, making it a great size for trimming and small cutting tasks. One side functions as a cutting mat, while the other side is a pressing mat, which is perfect for working on half square triangles, trimming units, or doing quick pressing when space is limited. It’s especially handy if you’re sewing on the go, babysitting all day, or crafting away from your usual sewing room. You obviously can’t carry your entire setup with you, but this makes a great portable alternative.
While I was testing it out, I also came across the Dritz Mighty Travel Steam Iron, and the two pair perfectly together. This compact iron heats up to temperatures between 140 and 428 degrees and even includes a steam function. It has a non-stick soleplate and only requires a small amount of water, roughly a tablespoon or two. It’s lightweight, comfortable to hold, and surprisingly easy to use, which makes it ideal for travel or small-space sewing.
This mat, in particular, feels like one of those products you’ll want to take everywhere once you try it. Happy sewing.
