Aurifil 2022 Color Builder 3pc Set Details
In celebration of Aurifils variegated threads, we introduce the 2022 Color Builder 3pc Thread Sets! Featuring 24 of the 36 variegated threads Aurifil offers, these shades are pulled together in the inspiration of 12 spectacular rainforest plants. They will be representing our Earth's most threatened tropical rainforests, primarily affected by deforestation and climate change. For 2022, Aurifil is partnering with Rainforest Trust, an organization devoted to the long-term preservation of these forests. Each of these 12 sets includes 3 large spools of 50-weight, all-purpose thread (2 variegated and 1 coordinating solid). Every reel contains 1422-yards of Mako Cotton Thread.
Aurifil's 2-ply thread is made from long-staple Egyptian cotton that provides strength and durability. Every strand of Aurifil thread is mercerized to give it a vibrant sheen. Use these spools in embroidery, quilting, applique, English Paper Piecing, lacework, and many other projects.
Frangipani
Located in Mexico/Central America, the Frangipani (Plumeria pudica) is a fast-growing shrub or tree featuring pure white flowers. It has been used as an anti-inflammatory and is also known as the Hawaiian Lei flower. Mint Ice (2800), Silver Moon (4060), and Silver Fox (4670) are the three colors included in Aurifil's Frangipani Color Builder Set.
Stinking Corpse
The Southeast Asian Islands of Borneo and Sumatra are located on the Equator and feature some of the world's most diversified rain forests. With a diameter of 3-1/2 feet, and weighing up to 24lbs, the Stinking Corpse Lily (Rafflesia arnoldii) produces the largest individual flower on Earth! It has a powerful odor of decaying flesh to allure insects to aid in pollination, and it is also one of the three national flowers of Indonesia. Colors include Peachy Pink (2435), Flamingo (4250), and Strawberry Parfait (4668).
Walking Palm
Native to the rainforests in tropical Central/South America, the Walking Palm (Socratea exorrhiza) can grow up to 75 feet tall. The strange stilt roots are hypothesized to help the tree "move" to more fertile soil, but the exact purpose is unknown. Spearmint (2908), Light Spring Green (3320), and Spring Prairie (4653) are the three colors included in Aurifil's Walking Palm Color Builder Set.
Golden Shrimp
The Golden Shrimp Plant (Pachystachys lutea) is a soft-stemmed tropical, evergreen shrub native to Peru. The Golden Shrimp is also known as the Golden Candle Plant and is a popular houseplant. Aurifil's Color Builder Set captures the colors in the Golden Shrimp Plant with its Yellow Orange (2145), Creme Bule (4150), and Marrakesh (3817) spools.
Amazon Water Lily
Located in the Amazon of South America, you can find the Amazon Water Lily (Victoria amazonica) floating on the water's surface. With leaves up to 10 feet in diameter and aquatic stalks 23-26 feet in length, it is the largest water lily in the world! The flowers can grow up to 16" in diameter, and the blooms turn pink when the flower has been pollinated. Aurifil's Amazon Water Lily Set offers a small sample of these shades with their Light Orchid (2515), Bubblegum (3660), and Pink Taffy (4660) shades.
Passionflower
Commonly known as passion fruit, the Passionflower (Passiflora edulis) is a perennial vine species that produces a deliciously sweet, seedy fruit native to Central America. The passion fruit is used in a variety of desserts, beverages, and sauces and is also the national flower of Paraguay. The Passionflower Color Builder Set includes shades of the flower-like Robins Egg (2715), Stone Washed Denim (3770), and Storm at Sea (4655).
Bird of Paradise
Indigenous to South Africa, the Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae) is an evergreen perennial growing up to 6 1/2 feet tall! It is also known as the Crane Flower for its similarity to the head and beak of exotic birds. It is also a very popular ornamental plant and was chosen to be the official flower of Los Angeles. Aurifil's Bird of Paradise 3pc Color Builder Set includes the colors Medium Butter (2130), Golden Glow (3920), and Tramonto a Zoagli (4657).
Jade Vine
First discovered in 1841, endemic to the Philippines, the Jade Vine (Strongylodon macrobotrys) grows amongst streams in damp forests and in ravines. The flowers are edible and are eaten as vegetables there. Bat-pollinated in the wild and prized in tropical and subtropical gardens for their dazzling flowers, Jade Vines can grow up to 50 feet long. The Jade Vine color set consists of Mint (2830), Turquoise Foam (4654), and Creme de Menthe (4662).
Golden Trumpet
Native to Brazil, the Golden Trumpet (Allamanda cathartica) is a climbing evergreen. It does not entwine or have aerial roots and can be trimmed into a shrub. If left unpruned, it can grow up to 20 feet! Although indigenous to Brazil, it has been adopted as the official flower of Canóvanas, Puerto Rico. Aurifil Golden Trumpet Color Set features Butter (2123), Lemon Ice (3910), and Limoni di Monterosso (4658).
Hawaiian Blue Ginger
Although it resembles ginger, the Hawaiian Blue Ginger (Dichorisandra thyrsiflora) does not actually belong to the ginger lineage. In the tropical woodlands of Hawaii, this flowering plant, surmounted by striking blue flowers, likes shady areas and is used as a diuretic in some parts of South America. This calming set is made up of Light Lilac (2510), French Lilac (3840), and Bari (4651).
Rubber Tree
Growing to a height of up to 141 feet in the wild, the Rubber Tree (Hevea brasiliensis) produces latex which is the primary source of natural rubber. South American Rubber Trees grew only in the Amazon rainforest, but they were established outside their native country due to increasing demand. While tapping the tree causes it to grow at a slowed rate, it does not harm the tree. Light Sand (2000), Biscotti (4666), and Nutty Nougat (4667) are the three colors included in Aurifil's Rubber Tree Color Builder Set.
Spider Lily
A rare plant native to Mexico, the Spider Lily (Hymenocallis eucharidifolia), was presumed to be extinct for over a century. It was rediscovered in the wild just a few years ago! A member of the Amaryllis family commonly found among streams and lakes in tropical areas, this species is prized as ornamental because of its striking white flowers. Aurifil's Spider Lily Color Builder Set features the colors White (2024), Licorice Twist (4652), and Graphite (4665).
