How to Thread a Serger / Overlock Machine

written by Sarah

We know Sergers are notoriously difficult to thread, so we’ve created a detailed, in depth tutorial to help you master an overlock machine. Follow along as we demonstrate step-by-step instructions from inserting the needle to navigating that tricky lower looper.
We use Maxilock Thread because using durable and reliable thread is essential to successful serging.

Thank you so very much for this tutorial. My husband bought me the exact same serger about 4+ years ago. I was SOOOOO intimidated that I stashed it away in a closet (and actually kept the box it came in thinking I was going to get rid of it. Today, I brought it back out and threaded it while watching your tutorial. I cannot thank you enough. This was so easy, only because of your video.

That is so nice to hear! I’m glad you didn’t give up on your serger — you will come to love it! Thanks for the great feedback!

This was a great presentation but I have an older model Singer with 5 threads and can’t quite get how to thread that last thread that males a chain stitch. It is a 14u54 and is twenty years old. Thanks
