My Go-To Non-Slip Ruler for Quilting
This blog post highlights the frustration of slippery quilting rulers and explains why the Quilters Select ruler stands out as a reliable alternative. Unlike traditional rulers that shift easily on fabric, the Quilters Select ruler features a non-slip backing that keeps it firmly in place for more accurate cutting. The post also emphasizes the usefulness of the 24 by 6½ inch size, especially for common quilting measurements like 2½-inch strips, making it a favorite and dependable tool for everyday quilting tasks.
Slippery rulers make me crazy, and if you’ve ever had one shift while you’re cutting fabric, you know exactly why. To show the difference, I placed a ruler on a bolt of black fabric so it’s easy to see how much it moves. If your ruler slides around that easily, it’s not doing you any favors. I even tried another ruler that has small feet designed to prevent slipping, but I could still push it around effortlessly with the top of my hand.
That’s not the case with the Quilters Select ruler. Using the same amount of pressure and the same motions, this ruler stays exactly where you put it. It doesn’t budge. Quilters Select rulers have a slight yellowish tint, and the back features a non-slip surface that grips the fabric without sticking or gliding. That feature alone is enough to make a huge difference in accuracy and confidence while cutting.
This has quickly become my ruler of choice and my absolute favorite in the sewing room. The size I reach for most often is the 24 by 6½ inch ruler. It’s perfect for quilting, especially when cutting 2½ inch strips or other common half-inch measurements. The extra half inch along the left edge makes measuring and trimming so much easier, and I find myself using it constantly.
If slipping rulers have ever frustrated you, I highly recommend giving this one a try. I think you’ll love it as much as I do. Happy sewing.
