Awhile back, I made a resolution to get my scraps together.
I think most of us can agree every little scrap counts. If you grew up like me, cutting up sheets because off-the-bolt was too expensive, then you know exactly what I'm talking about.
I'm going to be honest. My scraps were a hot mess; like a hazard zone. Before, I would just throw all my scraps in bins and bags. But every time I went to find a scrap, my floor disappeared! And there's no point in cutting a fresh yard of fabric if all you need is a 4x4 inch piece.
So, the quest to get organized came about. If you remember our first article on getting your scraps organized, then you know a bit of the story. The plan was to separate and press each scrap. Then, neatly fold and place in a hanging IKEA organizer.
The problem was my scraps and my fabric were in two different locations. All my fabric was stored in book shelves on the opposite wall. But, I want all my fabric, scraps and yardage, kept in one location. I've kept the IKEA hanging shelves, but changed the location.
Here is what I ended with last time. Now, I've still kept the hanging stick set up for now. I've since put my unfinished projects on hangers and hung them from the wooden craft stick.
I should have stored my fabric there to begin with, but I just couldn't get past the huge area of dead space.
So, I tried putting in a small book shelf. Erg. Nope.
Then, I tried a tension rod.
Eureka!
As I fill in more scraps, the tension rod is slowly sliding down. I'm not going to lie; I bought the cheapest Target sold. That being said, I think I will ask a strong gentleman to re-install the tension rod. Anyone have Ryan Goslings's number?
I must say this has been the BEST way to organize my scraps EVER. Yes, it is time consuming, but the end result is SO much more efficient. I am able to see what I have on hand and each piece is easy to find. I enjoy my fabric being neatly displayed. After all, fabric is beautiful. It should be shown off.
Here is the latest progress made. It's really starting to fill out! And I'm starting to fear I will need more hanging shelves.....
...because I still have more scraps to add.
Let me show you.
If you have neat freaks in the room; please remove them before you scroll.
