I did have to move the needle nine clicks to the right so that I could get a quarter inch seem instead of a seem well over a quarter inch. Plenty of room to move the needle with the oval opening. I use it on my 95 Q Viking Husqvarna.

Linda, This foot is intended to be used with the built-in 1/4" Straight Stitch, not the Straight Stitch in the center position. This may explain why you had to reposition your needle.

I used a flanged foot on a Bernina machine. I wanted one for my Viking. I love it as I don't have to really watch the foot for the quarter inch.

I've used this foot on several quilts already, and it's easy to use and you can sew much faster with it, but the guard is flexible (in and out) and I've found that it doesn't give you a true 1/4 seam. It gives you a wider seam.
