The shaft of the switch had broken off with the switch in the ON position. The owner had been using the sewing machine for several years with no switch, just plugging into AC power and unplugging it. Once the disassembly of the switch module was finished, replacement of the new replacement switch was straightforward. The only negative part was the new switch did not have as deep a cavity for the wires as the original and the wire exit was 90 degrees rotated from the original switch. Luckily that did not matter in this particular machine. The bare leads protrude about 1/3 of the bare lead distance (see photo). The switch module housing provided adequate lead protection. The deeper depth and 90 degrees of rotation prevented the unprotected wire in the original from requiring protection.
