I am surprised that Singer does not offer two cover plates with the machine. After the new plate arrived, I found the original one - so now I have two.

I am having trouble getting the cover to actually latch so that it will stay in place. My old one (15 years and 235 quilts) is starting to loosen in the machine. But, although I am working on "adjusting" the new part so it will stay in place, I'm not sure it is possible. It is a small piece of plastic, so we'll see.
This simple cover for the bobbin compartment doesn't have to do anything except fit and stay in place, which it does quite well. It might be easier for someone needing it to be sure that it is the right part if the picture were rotated 180 degrees so that the buyer would see it in the same orientation in the picture as it has in use.

Bought this cover to replace the one I lost. Great price, fits perfect.
It was the correct part, but the part did not EXACTLY fit my #9940 Singer machine. It kept popping out of my machine. I was able to work with it a little and now it stays on a bit more, but I can see that it could become a problem. I tried both pieces that I ordered and they both do the same thing. I do not want to buy a new machine, so I will just try to work at making the pieces fit. Not a good solution, maybe, but if two pieces don't fit well, then I can't imagine a third piece would work any better.
