Tutorial: How To Sew A Serenity Prayer Quilt

You can sew a Serenity Prayer Quilt project with our free step-by-step tutorial!

By using one Serenity Prayer Fabric Panel, you can sew an inspirational wall hanging or comforting prayer quilt in 1 hour.  To make the exact quilt featured in this tutorial (approximately 42″ x 60″), you will need 2 contrasting border prints (we used 1 yard of this fabric and 1 yard of this fabric), backing fabric (we used 1 yard of this fabric), batting, and cotton thread. Use your darkest fabric to create your quilt binding.

Supplies: In addition to your standard sewing supplies, you will need 2 contrasting border prints (we used 1 yard of this fabric and 1 yard of this fabric), backing fabric (we used 1 yard of this fabric), batting, and cotton thread. Use your darkest fabric to create your quilt binding.

Step 1: You will need 1 Serenity Prayer Fabric Panel, 2 contrasting border prints, and a backing fabric.

Step 2: Sew 6” border strips to all sides using a 1/4” seam allowance. Then sew 4” border strips to all sides using a 1/4” seam allowance.

Step 3: Create your quilt sandwich by layering your panel top, batting, and backing. Quilt by hand or by machine.

Step 4: Trim any remaining excess fabric. Add binding along all raw edges using a 1/4” seam.

  1. Hello Wanda! We do have links for the serenity prayer panel and the corresponding fabrics in the links above. If you go to towards the bottom of the page where it says “supplies”, in the description, it has a few words that are highlighted in green. If you click on these words, it will bring you to that fabric. I hope this helps!
