I was reluctant to buy a mechanical machine because the heavy duty machine I gre up with was clunky at times and the tension was always a challenge. I'm super happy with the Janome HD-5000BE. I did need to learn threading and bobbin winding on it, and it's easy once you get the hang of it. Stitches are beautiful top and bottom! Not clunky at all. I have been doing quilting with the walking foot and enjoying every moment!
I think it is a great machine for a beginner. It is light enough to carry. I buy fabric from them too and I get a lot of compliments on the shirts I have made for my husband.
Bought this for my daughter’s birthday. She wants to learn to sew and this is a great, versatile machine, capable of a wide variety of fabrics. She is thrilled!
