To start, I ordered the electric lift for my older Aussie cabinet. When the lift arrived it was too large for my existing cabinet. Sewing Machine Parts were going to allow me to return it. But after talking with them and my husband I decided to purchase the Wallaby cabinet with the white finish. This cabinet was in my budget .
What makes this purchase so special is my husband told me this would be a great birthday anniversary and Christmas gift. He is on hospice , he has fought brain cancer for several years.
This may be the last gift I receive from him. Every time I use it I will be reminded of his love.
All in all the Wallaby was easy to assemble. A few minor assembly issues - the left hand door is drilled a little off so the door fits too high to add a bumper to the top of the door for the side platform to rest on. The center platform didn't fit exactly in the opening when in the highest position so we had to file down the corner of the opening. OTOH, the hydraulic lift worked exactly as described and the assembly video was excellent. All the videos are excellent.
The acrylic insert top fits my machine exactly! It's beautiful too. I wish they had cut the opening so that the machine sat an inch or 2 further to the right - I want to sit centered in front of the needle but it is of course to the left of center of the machine, so my knee bangs against the side of the cabinet. I'll get used to it but it could be better that great - it could be perfect!!!
I haven't built the Kangaroo Kiwi yet but I expect it to go together much the same.
I really like the Wallaby cabinet due to the amount of space you have when quilting. I had to adjust the lift several times before I could get my sewing machine and insert mostly level. Found that the cabinet opening was not cut level to allow the insert to lay flat. Adjusted my sewing machine with cardboard pieces under several feet to the right side and now its as level as I can get it. Otherwise everything else is great.
This is my second cabinet, and I love it. However, I found a small area of damage on the edge of the large extension panel. It is on the underside of the panel, and I decided not to request a replacement. I had two damaged pieces for which I requested replacements on my first Wallaby because they were more significant. The packing for both Wallabys was inadequate, resulting in damage from shipping. My feedback is to increase styrofoam packing to reduce movement of the parts. It was clear that packing was inadequate.
Even better than it looks online, this is a thoughtfully well-designed sturdy cabinet that will be easy to use for years to come. What a huge step up from sewing with my machine on my desk! As large as it is when completely opened out, the cabinet has a compact profile. I am very pleased!!
This is a solid piece of furniture and a really great desk. It took a while to put it together but the directions were easy and all the parts fit perfectly.
