Hi Sarah – Is the serger needle ok for knits or do you recommend ball needles? I just purchased a brother 1034D serger that included Schmetz Universal Needles – looked like size 14. Planning to sew knit tops – a medium weight

I personally like to switch to the Ballpoint Needles. But if you don’t have any, you’ll probably be fine with the Universal of a medium weight knit, as long as it’s not too stubborn of a fabric. Good luck!

Hi Nelda,
To be able to use your serger thread with your Brother LS2125 you could purchase an additional thread stand like this one: https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/thread-stand-1-spool-cast-iron-metal-base.aspx

What purpose do the nets over the thread cones serve?

Hi! The Nets help the thread feed better. You can certainly serge without them, but we’ve seen better results with the nets.

What is the purpose of the spool nets shown in serging episode 2 as part of the essential tools?

Hi! I’ve found they improve how the thread is fed to the machine.
