Welcome back to our Beginner's Guide to Serging! In episode 7, you'll learn about the Rolled Edge. We'll show you how to do a wide a narrow rolled edge using a 3 thread stitch. You'll also learn about a narrow 2 thread rolled hem using a converter/spreader.

A rolled hem is a great decorative feature and can be created using all purpose thread, but really shines when used with nylon thread and variegated thread.

If your machine doesn't have a retractable stitch finger, you'll have to install a rolled hem plate before you can create this stitch.

Not all machines use the same settings, but if you set your tensions to what you would use with a 3 thread overlock, then increase the lower looper to its max tension, you'll get a nice rolled hem. Decreasing your stitch length to the lowest setting will create the fullest stitch edge.

If you have any questions, be sure to leave them in the comment section below. Good Luck!
